FAQ – °One

Is the cosinuss° One waterproof?

Practically: Yes. Certified: Not yet. Using Cosinuss °One for intensive atlethic activities, for example in the rain, with wet hair, after swimming or exposed to strong perspiration, is no problem.

An USB plug offers additional protection against large quantities of splashing water. °One shouldn‘t be used for swimming, however, since it is not completely waterproof. Cosinuss °One is not yet IP-certified so in the operating instructions, we have to declare accordingly. Certification is currently in progress, though. In practice, °One is definitely splash proof, from running in the rain to forgetting the sensor in the washing machine – we haven‘t had any reclamations yet. In the unlikely event that your °One gets damaged by splashing water, we will exchange it cost-free as a matter of course.

How do i clean my cosinuss° One?

Carefully clean °One with a damp cloth or a wet cotton tip. Use warm water for moistening or any off-the-shelf disinfectant spray. This applies both to cleaning the housing, as well as the silicone cap including the measurement sensor system. Clean it carefully, but not too rough.

Notice hygienics: Make sure your ears are clean inside when using your °One to protect the sensor system from contamination.

How long is the battery runtime?

Under technically ideal conditions Cosinuss °One runs up to 10 hours. In everyday life, battery runtime could be slightly reduced due to the conditions of your training. Generally, Cosinuss °One runs up to 8 hours.

Notice connection attempt: If °One needs to start several attempts to connect and readjust more often, due to external conditions like great distance between sensor and receiving device few reflection surfaces in the open country changing ambient light battery life can be reduced.

Battery charging time: Charging time is about one hour.

Is the cosinuss° One limiting my hearing ability?

Cosinuss °One is worn one-sided. The other ear remains free.

A hearing loss is only caused by the in-ear worn silicone shield. Which is, however, produced from a special sound-permeable material, so that you are still able to hear exterior sounds well.

Thus, °One has only a minimal limitating effect on your hearing capcity. This mild loss is compensated and balanced by your brain after a short time.

Habitualness and subjective feeling my vary, naturally. If you generally don‘t have any problems with headphones in your ear, Cosinuss °One in comparison will feel even more comfortable to wear and seals off demonstrably far less.

Can i wear my cosinuss° One together with sunglasses or helmets?

Yes, you can wear °One in combination with glasses and helmets easily. You can apply °One before putting on your sports glasses and your bicycle helmet. Even after you are in full gear already, you can place your pulse sensor in your ear easily. °One doesn‘t stick out over your ear due to its small size.

Eyeglasses aren‘t placed directly on top of the ear, as you might think, but a small gap remains under the side pieces. When swiping your finger along the side pieces of your glasses, this gap can be felt. Exactly here, the holding bracket of °One is placed.

Bicycle helmet straps go in a triangle around the ear and therefore don‘t affect the fitting of the sensor. Also, bicycle helmets don‘t extend to the ears.

For full-face helmets, only putting on the tight helmet is a challenge at first. When Cosinuss° One is placed under the helmet, the sensor is held in position, which is actually a great benefit for disciplines, where a full-face helmet is needed.

Is there a holding bracket for wearing the cosinuss° One with additional support?

The holding bracket is an accessory, a silicone bracket, which gives more stability to the Cosinuss °One in the auricle. This bracket is included in the scope of delivery since november 2017. To customers that had previously bought our product, we will send the bracket with pleasure on request.

In individual or extreme situation, in which our athletes perform dynamic movements, have to stand shocks or sweat excessively, the bracket keeps °One in the ear, so it doesn‘t lose the measurement contact.

Due to individual anatomical conditions or certain sports, it could happen that °One slides out of the ear. This causes an unpleasant feeling of a non fitting sensor adjustment in the ear. It may also lead to incorrect measurements of the heart rate due to non reliable sensor contact. Our additional holding bracket solves this problem.

What is HRV exactly?

The gap between two sequential heart beats is measurable as an RR-Interval. These RR-Intervals are not equally long. They are subject to natural fluctuations. The quantification of these fluctuations are named as Heart Rate Variability (HRV). Psychophysiology is looking at the HRV as a bio-indicator for the personal stress level. The option to control training-load by means of HRV is being discussed, too. In General it is said that a high variation points out to a high standard of your personal fitness level. On the other hand a small variation can indicate to signs of a risen stress level or overtraining.

Analysis of HRV:

The analysis of the RR-Intervals is based upon a multitude of special HRV parameters. These Parameters are separated into those concerning time (SDNN, RMSSD, NN50, etc.) and those concerning frequency (LF/HF). Important to notice is, that there is possibility to directly compare HRV-parameter between two different persons. Therefore you can not extrapolate from one single value to the overall wellbeing, fitness index, personal health or stress level of a person.

The best practice is to create whole series of measurements during a longer period of time. This enables the possibility to draw a conclusion to your daily and individual level of wellbeing. Please notice that measurement should be taken at rest and not during exercise.

Cosinuss° One:

Please notice that the cosinuss° One sensor is not directly processing these algorithms on the sensor itself, but it delivers the RR-Intervals as raw data that underline the further HRV processing. The user application or smartwatch your are using is responsible for the final calculation and interpretation of the HRV.

A relevant analysis of HRV is going to be implemented in the cosinuss° One app soon.

By now the cosinuss° One is transmitting RR-intervalls only via Bluetooth. ANT+ will be updated in the near future.

Where can I find the LOT number on my sensor?

The LOT number is located on the side of the sensor on which the cosinuss° logo is printed, directly below the type number. The LOT number is used to identify manufactured products. The first two digits indicate the year, the last two are consecutive.
